Oxon Bird Pics: Autumn/Winter 2018/19

Little Ringed Plover, Standlake Pit 60

29 March 2019

Briefly within distant photo range of the LL hide on a glorious sunny morning. The x2 converter helped!

Great White Egret, Standlake Pit 60

19 January 2019

Coming moderately close to the North Shore Hide, which is unusual.

19 January 2019

Also coming moderately close to the North Shore Hide in dull conditions.

10 January 2019

On a rare approach towards the North Shore hide. This was the closest it got.

Slightly further away than the shot above.

10 January 2019

A flight shot taken with the 500mm lens & x1.4TC, handheld. As a result not perfectly sharp, but it was quite close.
  Crossbill, Buckland Warren

7 December 2018

Some success on my third attempt for Crossbill's at this site. This was the first bird I saw, nicely in the sun but near the top of a tall and too distant larch.
Crossbill, Buckland Warren

7 December 2018

A male with parts in the sun - closer than above.

7 December 2018

The closest shot I managed to get in really challenging, windy conditions.
  Water Rail, Pinkhill, Farmoor

10 November 2018

Showing well from time to time under the feeders.

  Little Grebe, Letcombe Bassett

2 November 2018

My first views of this species at this site, being quite obliging.

Also see below.

Full sun with an interesting green reflection in the water.

A different lighting effect.

Thanks to Dai & Badger for getting the word out so quickly!

Full sun and a close bird today!
  Arctic Tern, Farmoor Reservoir

27 September 2018

Another confiding bird at Farmoor - a juv Arctic Tern. It wasn't present on my way out but was there on the way back. Difficult lighting for this photo though with brilliant  white areas in full sun.

See above - in flight.
  Wheatear, Farmoor Reservoir

22 September 2018

A most confiding bird at the western end of the causeway. From this angle, there is almost no sign of the concrete!

As above. Again little sign of the concrete.

14 September 2018

A crop of the photo below. I like the dark background to this shot.

14 September 2018

A close approach after some wait!
  Kingfisher, Farmoor Reservoir,

13 September 2018

A somewhat distant shot from the Shrike Meadow hide as this bird perched briefly in brilliant sunlight. Has cropped well at this resolution though. The 500f4 II continues to impress me, even with the x1.4TC on.
  Great crested Grebe, Farmoor Reservoir

13 September 2018

The light was great in the morning so I couldn't resist making something of it by pausing to get some images of this bird that was close in to the SE corner of F1. Still a good deal of summer plumage left.
