Otter Loch Gairloch, Highland, Scotland
14 July 2011
Taken from a standard 2hr tourist boat trip, which
didn't venture out of the bay due to the poor weather
conditions.
This is hardly a prize winning photograph but not bad
in the circumstances - quite distant subject, awful light
(it started raining very shortly afterwards) and the
rolling boat in the choppy water!

Barbary Ground Squirrel Costa Calma, Fuerteventura,
Canary Islands, Spain
10 February 2011
These introduced mammals were quite common on this
island, but only on the west coast opposite Costa Calma
did we find them as tame as this.

Water Vole, Freeman's Marsh, Hungerford, Berks, UK 12
December 2010
This cute mammal pic was some compensation for a
second failed attempt to see the Glossy Ibis. Also seen
here were Waxwing (1), Jack Snipe (2) and Water Rail.
Much better conditions than yesterday.

Roe Deer, Shellingford Pit, Oxon, UK 20 October
2010
As I did my usual circuit of this site, I stumbled
across this in the far corner. I'm not sure who was more
surprised: me or the deer! Surprisingly after the initial
bolt, it stopped quite nearby and turned round to stare
at me, before departing.

Rabbit, Marazion RSPB, Cornwall, UK 3 October 2010
OK so this isn't a very special animal, but they are
so easy and tame to photograph here - they clearly know
nobody is going to climb over the wall to worry them!

Fox, Near Valadalen, central Sweden 25 June 2010
At the entrance to its den, that was right by this
minor road. A bonus for an earlish start!

Fallow Deer, Catmore, Berks 20 December 2009
Seen on a very frosty walk. This stag had accumulated
an impressive number of hinds - a few of which can be
seen here.

Fallow Deer, Catmore, Berks 20 December 2009
An enlargement of the left hand portion of the shot
above. This little group makes an effective composition,
but is somewhat overcropped.

Reindeer, Lake Annsjon region, Sweden. 17 May 2009
My first sighting of this mammal, after a number of
visits to Norway and Sweden.

Roe Deer, Fyfield Wick, Oxon, UK 10 January 2009
'Wild' deer, instead of the 'tame' Fallow below.

Brown Rat, Luton, UK 30 November 2008
Looks almost appealing in this pose! Taken on an
abortive three hour wait for a Red-breasted Flycatcher in
cold, dank conditions. This bird had been present for
almost a week, but was seen for the last time about 45
mins before I arrived. The perils of twitching!

Female Fallow Deer, Holkam Hall Park, Norfolk 23
October 2008
We were surprised to find that there is free entry for
cars into this park, which then gave good views of quite
tame, rutting deer - similar to those shown on this year's
Autumn Watch BBC TV series!

Male Fallow Deer, Holkam Hall Park, Norfolk 23
October 2008
Not one of the dominant stags, but still an impressive
sight.

Fallow Deer, Holkam Hall Park, Norfolk 23 October
2008
The dominant stag surrounded by his females.
Continuous grunting calls heard well (this is what the
females go for, according to Simon King!).

Hares, Catmore, Berks 17 March 2007
A surprisingly dozy pair captured from reasonably
close range.

Minke Whale, off Gairloch, Scotland. August 2003
Seen from an excellent boat trip off Gairloch in the
splendid summer of 2003 (even in Scotland!). This
standard tourist trip also featured loads of auks, skuas
etc.
With Nikon CP 995.
